When I first started acting with Block 08, I thought I had to pretend to be someone else, like I’d walk on stage and become this completely different person, as if I were lying with my entire body. I was completely wrong. Then it hit me: the best performances happen when I’m actually being myself, just in a different situation. It’s like being myself in a different font. Most of my roles have me being happy, jolly, sharing stories. And honestly? That’s just me. But here’s what I discovered through actually performing, not just thinking about it: acting isn’t about pretending. It’s about developing that character inside yourself so deeply that you can’t fake it anymore. You can’t pretend for hours on stage. Over time, you become that character not through lying, but through actually understanding them: their fears, their joy, why they do what they do.

The real magic happens when I step into someone else’s perspective. While I’m performing, I’m not just saying lines. I’m watching how people react to my character. I’m thinking about what they’re thinking. I’m trying to feel what they might feel in that moment. And that’s when something shifts inside me: I start to understand people in a way I couldn’t before. Acting forced me to walk in someone else’s shoes, literally and emotionally. I’ve played characters who are scared, hopeful, angry, vulnerable. And each time, I had to find that feeling inside myself first. That’s the thing nobody tells you: acting doesn’t mean pretending. It means becoming curious about a person until you understand them so well that when you step into their life, it feels real because you actually know why they’d act that way. And when it feels real, the audience feels it too. They see you, not the character, because the character is now you.
And you know what? (hehe) It’s always fun. Because you’re not lying. You’re becoming.
